Rather than settle for a quiet retirement. EDWARD AUGUSTINE, 61, a former headmaster, took up the challenge of going into the batik business. Krafttangan Malaysia provided the initial capital and training. Today after only four years, his "Batik Betong" brand is synonymous with the finest silk batik, printed with unique Dayak motifs. All designs are original and hand-drawn by Edward. Helping him with the marketing of the batik is his wife, Mackenna Samuel, 61, a retired teacher. Success for Edward is knowing that his Batik Betong is making inroads in markets overseas.
